is to acquire big boats for sea transportation in coastal communities.
Deputy Governor of Rivers State Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo disclosed this on Saturday, during a courtesy visit to the palace of the Amayanabo of Grand Bonny Kingdom, HRM, King Edward Asimini Dappa Pepple, Perekule IX, in Bonny Island,  Dr. Banigo said the acquisition of the boats would boost economic activities in the area and guarantee safety of lives and property.
On the reconstruction of Bonny Jetty, she said Governor Nyesom Wike recently visited some jetties, and promised to reconstruct the Bonny and Port Harcourt jetties within the shortest time to ease hardship experienced by the people.
The Deputy Governor expressed the preparedness of the State Government to collaborate with the efforts of Bonny people towards the actualization of the Bonny master plan project, stressing that the vision would be realized if the people take the driver’s seat in the project implementation, and enjoined other stakeholders to identify with the vision.
Dr. Banigo said she was in the Amanyanabo’s palace to thank the King, the Council of Chiefs and the entire Bonny people for the support given to her and the Governor during the April 11, 2015 elections which the Supreme Court had reaffirmed.
Responding, the Amanyanabo of Grand Bonny, HRM, King Edward Asimini Dappa Pepple, said the Bonny Council of Chiefs owe the Governor and his Deputy a duty to support the present administration, particularly knowing their pedigree in fulfilling promises.
He recalled that Governor Wike, as Coordinating Minister for Education, promised the establishment of a Polytechnic in Bonny, and today the institution has commenced academic activities.
King Dappa Pepple used the occasion to advise Bonny politicians to avoid unnecessary bickering and divisive tendencies that would deny them the benefit of governance, adding that the kingdom is endowed with a lot of human and material resources that could be used to advance development of the State.
He noted that Bonny utility company is seeking for partnership to ensure that the area enjoy better electricity power supply and urged the state government to support the process.

Konya Advises Women Against Early Marriage, Fraud … Charges Kenpoly SUG On Peace

The Chairman of the Governing Council of Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic (KenPoly), Bori, Rivers State, Prof. Roselyn Konya, has urged women to lead a strong advocacy against early marriages in the society.
Konya, a former Commissioner for Environment in State, also warned women against indulging in fraudulent activities.
This was contained in a statement by the  Deputy Registrar, Public Relations, Kenpoly, Mr. Ogbonda N. Innocent, and made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt
Prof Konya stated this when the executive members of Women in Technical Education and Development (WITED) of the Polytechnic paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Bori.
The Chairman noted that one of the roles of the Association is to uplift the status of women in the society.
She charged women to speak out against all manner of evil, including examination malpractices, sorting, drug abuse, and other social vices in the society.
She also called on WITED members to use their positions as wives, mothers and sisters to discourage their husbands, brothers and wards from indulging in act of cultism, and make God first in their daily activities.
She donated the sum of N500,000 to the Association towards the successful hosting of its planned maiden conference.
Earlier, chairperson of WITED, Dr. Mrs Mina Furo Mac-Fubara, had disclosed that the Association was planning to train about 30 indigent girls in various skills and also empower them with starter packs at the end of the training.
Mac-Fubara, who is also the Head of Department (HOD) of Insurance, Kenpoly, congratulated Prof. Konya on her appointment as the first female Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution.
In another development, Prof. Konya has assured the students of the institution to be peaceful in their approach to the challenges that could present themselves while on campus.
She assured the students that their welfare and interest remain the top priority of the Governing Council.
Prof. Konya gave this assurance when the Students Union Government (SUG), Kenpoly, led by its President, Comrade Kingsley Akor, visited her in her office.
She announced that a bank will soon open a new branch in the polytechnic.
She, however, said the polytechnic’s convocation proposed for 5th of April, 2025 has been postponed due to funding challenges, assuring that a new date for the event will be announced later.
Prof. Konya advised the students to take their studies seriously and shun all vices that could endanger their future, while also admonishing them to respect constituted authorities.
The SUG President, Akor, had earlier told Prof. Konya that they were in her office to congratulate her on her appointment as the 10th Chairman of the institution’s Governing Council.
Akor pleaded with the management of the institution to assist the Union to repair the Students’ Union bus.

The planted trees, which include species such as Neem, Crape Myrtle, Golden Shower, and Flamboyant, are expected to achieve a 60-80% survival rate, with dedicated 24×7 teams ensuring their continuous care through watering, mulching, pruning, and other essential horticultural practices.

HYPREP Vows To Tackle Water Challenges In Ogoni

The Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP), Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, has reaffirmed the project’s commitment to addressing water challenges in Ogoniland.
Zabbey, who made this commitment in a statement to commemorate the 2025 World Water Day recently, stated that potable water is vital to its mandate.
“As we mark World Water Day on March 22, we reiterate our commitment to tackling the water challenges faced by hydrocarbon-impacted communities in Ogoniland.
“This year’s theme, ‘Glacier Preservation’, underscores the need to protect the world’s freshwater sources, which are vital for sustaining ecosystems, supporting human life, and regulating the climate”,he stated.
According to Zabbey, the theme reflects the importance of preserving glaciers, a crucial source of freshwater for millions of people worldwide.
“HYPREP’s efforts to provide potable water forms a critical part of its mandate to remediate and restore the environment in Ogoniland.
“At HYPREP, we recognise the importance of clean and safe water, particularly for hydrocarbon-impacted communities in Ogoniland”, he stated.
Reaffirming the organisation’s dedication to environmental restoration and peace building, Zabbey called on all stakeholders to support the initiative.
He said, “We urge government agencies, international organisations, community leaders, and other Niger Delta communities to collaborate with us in this effort.
“The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Report on Ogoniland provided clear recommendations for restoring contaminated water sources, and HYPREP remains steadfast in implementing these recommendations”.
Zabbey also noted that the project had recently inaugurated water facilities in Bunu and Beeri communities, increasing the number of Ogoni communities with access to potable water to 30, as part of its commitment to meeting the needs of affected areas.
