Group Partners NAWOJ, FIDA To Advance Vulnerables’ Cause
A non -governmental organisation under the auspices, ‘Solution Women International Foundation’, (SWIF) has charged women in the state to empower themselves academically and spiritually in other for them to compete favourably with their male counterparts in the society.
Speaking during the opening ceremony to mark the foundation’s two years anniversary in Port Harcourt, the SWIF President, Evangelist Ebere Orikannu stated that lots of challenges were confronting entrepreneurs in Nigeria, thereby depriving them from accomplishing their goals, visions and missions to better the cause of vulnerable women, girls and boys in the state and society at large.
Orikannu said the essence of the event was to reach out to the less privileged and abused women to amplify their voice as well as making them become positive agents of change in the society.
She advised women to remain focused, determined and caution their children to be self-disciplined in other to make positive change in the state and society at large.
In her goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Women Affairs, Uchechukwu Uriri thanked the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for giving women the opportunity to occupy vice chairman positions in the 23 local government areas of the state, adding that he is the only governor, who has set a good precedence for other governors to emulate.
She prayed that God continue to grant the Governor all that he desires to better the cause of women in the state, while also commending the SWIF for recognising the place of the ministry in the State, urging that other NGOs coming to Rivers State should emulate and do same.
In her speech, the chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Mrs. Susan Serekara-Nwikhana stated that limited female participation in professional life gave birth to the establishment of NAWOJ over 30 years ago.
Nwikhana said as a professional women body, NAWOJ is confronted with vulnerable women challenges, and decried the inability of the association to put smiles on the faces of the vulnerable women, girls, and boys in the society.
She charged women to empower themselves by strategically positioning themselves to balance the gender swing for men and women equality.
Nwikhana said NAWOJ is happy to partner with SWIF to advance the cause of women and children in the society, noting that together, NAWOJ, FIDA, MWAN AWLA have been advocating on issues that affect women negatively by amplifying their voice.
