NDE Begins Training Of 50 Persons In Bayelsa
The National Directorate
of Employment (NDE) in Bayelsa State begun training of 50 women on using local fabric to produce ladies’ wears.
NDE Director-General, Mr Abubakar Mohammed, said the two weeks programme was to enable women to become self-reliant.
Represented by Miss Carol Godswill, NDE Senior Enterprises Development Officer, Mohammed said the training was nationwide.
“We have gone round almost all the states of the federation; it is a two-week programme for women on how to use Adire/Ankara material to produce ladies wears like bags and shoes.
“We have other programmes for women like Tye-dye, catering and confectionery, interior decoration and event management.
“In the area of women employment initiative of the NDE, a total number of 990 women have received training under income generating activities,” he said.
Mohammed said 11,100 women and youths received empowerment grant under the micro enterprises enhancement scheme of the NDE.
“These are some of our achievements on women empowerment from Jan. 2014 to Jan. 2015; NDE is an apex head of job creation and we will continue to expand our activities.’’
Co-coordinator of the directorate, Mr David Apakasa, Bayelsa urged the participants to behave well in the period of the training.
“The programme is free; it is for your own good; this is an opportunity to become the boss of your own; so, make yourselves available for this programmes,” Apakasa said.
Bayelsa Head of Women Employment Branch (WEB) of the NDE, Mrs Ebipatie Fezighe, said the programme was a welcome development and urged the women to embrace the opportunity.
“The Programme will not only empower you, but will be of benefit in the fight against the unemployment in Bayelsa and Nigeria at large,” Fezighe said.
