Rivers Regain Trusteeship Of Cooperative Federation
The Rivers Cooperative Federation (RCF) has regained the lost position in to the Board of Trustees of the Cooperative Federation of Nigeria (CFN), as the president of RCF, Mr Victor Alasia has been elected as the treasurer of the board. The Tide gathered that RCF lot the position to the trustee council when the former president, Mr Amabipi Martins was removed from office unceremoniously because of the internal crisis that rocked the federation in Port Harcourt. Mr Alasia, who now hold the position of President of Rivers Cooperative, was elected the new treasurer of the CFN at Akure, Ondo State in a just concluded annual conference. Responding, when The Tide called his office in Port Harcourt, the new CFN treasurer and president of RCF said the election was keenly contested, and that it was tactically political. He said that the Nigerian political factor of the North-South West and South-South was brought to bear, and that there was alignment and disalignment for which the South-South got the treasurer, while the north got the chairmanship, which all along had been monopolised by the west. The position he said is for a four-year term except that there is a problem at the home front (RCF) that will cost them the position. He promised to wake-up to the responsibility of sensitising the public towards the benefits of cooperative, which the west had been enjoying.
