The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bala Hassan who declared the special operation, in Port Harcourt, said the command took the pre-emptive steps to curb crime during the period, noting that some people are known to perpetrate criminal acts during the period.
In his words “It is a well known fact, that, as the year comes to an end from the month of September up to December, criminal activities do increase in the society.
“This is because some groups of people will want to enjoy the festivities by unlawful means, by engaging in all manner of crimes.
“This makes the police to take pre-emptive steps to curb the menace of crime during the period,” Mr. Hassan stated.
The command boss recalled that the operation was first launched last year as “Operation ember flush I,” which was premised on the security reports received during 2007 ember months when he took over the baton of policing the state in May, 2008.

According to the police boss, the command had created eight additional divisions in Choba, Woji, Rumuolumeni, Afam, Eneka, Ozuoba, Azikiwe and Egbeda for security coverage in the state.
He appealed to the state government to assist in providing the newly created divisions with logistics and more vehicles for security operation.
