Police Arrest 11 Ex-militants Over Violent Protest
Following the recent violent demonstration by ex-militants at Choba in Port Harcourt, which led to the death and raping of women as well as destruction of properties worth millions of naira. The Rivers State Police Command has arrested and prosecuted eleven suspected ex-militants to serve as a deterrent to others.
Also arrested were Nwachukwu Henry and Henry Amachree for car snatching offences in the area.
A police statement signed by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Rita Iwoma-Abbey disclosed that Zion Baridamnabia, Ebikebina John, John Briggs, Clement Patmore, Shedrack Uche and Boyfriend Lebete were the suspects arrested for the death of two persons, killed during the incident.
Others arrested for the same offence were Lole Dinee Aruchi Chinnagorom Amadi, Amadi Odume, Joseph Itari and Albert Ogburia.
The command in the statement called on the public not to panic over the violent demonstration by the ex-militants, as the command has beefed up security in the area and beyond to forestall future occurrence pending the relation of the ex-militants by government.
The command further assured the residents in the area to go about their normal businesses without fear of further molestation in the area.
According to the statement, intensive investigatinms are on, and after the conclusion, the suspects would be charged to court accordingly.
The command says it has repositioned to rid the state of all forms of criminality to ensure the safety of the state for development.
In another development, men of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested one Collins Eze and Azubuike Waliieze for attempting to murder a seven-year old Onyebuchi Francis Uba at a bush in Elele, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The command in a statement signed by PPRO, DSP Rita Innoma-Abbey said the two suspects forcefully carried their victim from Rumuji to Elele bush, where the victim was strangulated and abandoned believing that Francis Uba was dead.
Police in a tip-off trailed the suspects and arrested them in the area.
The statement said the suspects would be charged to court, immediately investigation is concluded.

The new Rivers state commissioner of police ,CP Olugbenga Adepoju has assured that his administration will remain apolitical in the discharge of his duties in the state.
Adepoju who officially assumed office last Friday as the 47th police commissioner of police stated this during his median press briefing held at state police command over the weekend in Port Harcourt.
He assured that under his watch as the police helmsman in the state his administration will ensure protection of human rights and warn that any police officer who violate the rights of people will be sanctioned in accordance with the police act and
urged Rivers people to hold the Police accountable, share view of people with police.

Being an economic hub of the country,the state faces challenges of crisis from political interest, economic sabotage illegal oil bunkering.

The Rivers State Police Command says it has acknowledged a social media report on alleged assault of a lady by police officers along Evo Road, Port Harcourt.
A statement signed by the police public Relations Officer (PPRO),SP Grace Iringe Koko in Port Harcourt, yesterday said the police acknowledged the report of such alleged assault and invite the lady involved to visit the command so as to enable the command to commence investigation with a view to apprehend the officers involved.
“We urge the lady involved to visit the Police Headquarters to enable a thorough investigation into the matter. This step will assist us in identifying the officers involved and ensuring that appropriate actions are taken.”

Opobo Elder Statesman Lauds Fubara’s Christmas Bonus to Civil Servants …Celebrates Recognition As Public Office Holder of the Year 2024
The Chairman of Opobo Elder Statesmen-4-Sim, Alabo Edwin Cockeye-Brown, has expressed appreciation to Rivers State governor, Amaopusenibo Siminalayi Fubara over his granting of #100,000 as Christmas bonus to the entire spectrum of civil servants across the State.
Speaking with journalists at his residence in Port Harcourt, yesterday. Alabo Cockeye-Brown said the generous gesture from the governor undoubtedly brought joy and relief to many families during the festive season.
