Bayelsa, N’Delta Ministry To Collaborate On Projects
Bayelsa State government says it would collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to facilitate infrastructural development in the region.
To this end, the Ministry is expected to show greater commitment and will power in executing projects aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the people.
Governor Timipre Sylva who stated this at Government House, Yenagoa, when the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe accompanied by Minisfer of State, Mr Samuel Odey paid him a courtesy visit, commented on the need to show seriousness on the East West road project.
Chief Sylva described the project as crucial to the people because of its economic importance and for the fact it connects all the states of South South region.
The governor appealed to the ministry to assist the state in the constructions of the three senatorial roads which he said will cost about one hundred billion naira in view of the difficult terrains of the state.
The roads according to him, are Nembe-Brass road estimated at N38 billion, Yenagoa-Oporoma road in which N50 billion is required and Amassoma-Ekeremor-Agge road project.
Chief Sylva however called for the supports of all Nigerians to the Acting President Goodluck Jonathan in order to stabilise the fragile political situation in the country.
In his response, Elder Orubebe said his visit, was to ensure that contractors handling projects in the region were up to date in execution of their jobs.
Elder Orubebe said that the contractors has no reason to complain because money had been made available to them, saying that the East-West road was scheduled to be completed two years ago but has to be rescheduled because obvious circumstances.
He said already the ministry has already awarded contracts for building of skills acquisition centre’s in the region, some of which he disclosed had been completed, appealing that governments of the region should assist the ministry to achieve its objectives.
