House Leader Tasks Councillors On Good Governance
The House Leader in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Llyod, has tasked the third tier legislators to be alive to their responsibilities in order to promote good governance across the local government areas in the country.
Hon Llyod gave the charge Monday, when the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He described the third tier legislature as the fulcrum of democracy in the country and urged them to make bye-laws and resolutions that would impact positively on the lives of the rural dwellers.
The state House of Assembly leader advised them to always be vanguard of development and support the various state government in their areas by reporting any unserious contractors who abandon government projects.
The lawmaker advised them to continue to work as a team and assured them of the support of the state legislature to their organisation.
He thanked them for finding time to visit him regretting that their coming together is belated and noted that the organisation was used in the past time as a pressure group to demand for the better welfare of councilors in the state.
In his welcome address, the state chairman of the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, Councillor Goodluck Nnadi, said they were in the state House of Assembly to pledge their unalloyed support to the leader of the state legislature.
Councillor Nnadi told the state lawmaker that the forum is made up of all the councilors from the twenty-three local government areas in the state and solicited for the support of the state House of Assembly for organization.
Also speaking, the leader of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Legislative Assembly, Hon. Uzah Douglas lauded the performance of councilors in the state.
He noted that lack of independence on the part of the third tier legislative organ has been a militating factor against its progress noting that some local government council chairmen frustrate the efforts of the local government Assemblies.
The crux of the visit was the conferment of the first state patron to the leader, state House of Assembly by the state chairman of the organisation.
