Visionary Men, Assets To Society – Ikuru
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru says visionary men are great assets to the society as they facilitate the fulfillment of God’s purpose on earth.
Engr Ikuru said this Saturday during a N150 million fund raising ceremony for the building of an ultra-modern Inter-Denominational Worship Centre by the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt.
Describing the first Military Governor of old Rivers State, His Royal Majesty, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, as a visionary leader, Engr. Ikuru said though the 17-storey Rivers State Secretariat Complex erected by him was criticised, it is today “ a landmark achievement for the State”.
He said the essence of the event was to realise the vision given by God to the Rivers and Bayelsa District of the Church, Pastor Godwin Osuigbo, for the building of an inter-Denominational Worship Centre to be known as “Wonderland”, expressing optimism that the vision, given 12 years ago, must be realised, while urging all to key in into the realisation of the project.
Speaking, King Diete-Spiff, who is also the Amanyanabo of Twon Brass, thanked God for His mercies and the growth of the old Rivers State, saying that the goodness of God is enough for man to invest in Church building projects, noting however that “the Church is not built by one person,” appealing to everyone to participate in the project.
In their separate speeches, Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, represented by the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta State chapter, Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, and Executive Director of First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Dr. Alex Otti, represented by Mr. Nnaemeka Eze, described the project as worthy venture and enjoined the support of all present.
In his exhortation, taken from Genesis 22:1-14, Pastor John Okah of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) attributed the crisis in the Niger Delta region to the overbearing tendencies of wealthy people, regretting their unwillingness to invest their resources in God’s business.
The cleric called on the people to sacrifice their assets to God’s work as Abraham did, observing that “people who understand the dynamics of giving do not lack because when you give, you receive”.
Dignitaries at the occasion include Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Harry, Wife of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Mina ikuru, Special Adviser to the Governor on Traffic Matters, Engr. Ronald Odoyi, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, among others.
