Oshiomhole Warns ACN Aspirants Against Violence
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, has warned that any aspirant in ACN found recruiting thugs will be expelled from the party.
Oshiomhole gave the warning at the Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre in Benin on Wednesday while addressing party leaders from 192 wards across the state.
He said it was regrettable that ACN membership drive in the state had turned violent.
An ACN member, Emmanuel Omoregbe, was killed at Ora Ward 6 on Friday during the party’s membership registration.
“Any aspirant, whose loyalists are involved in gangsterism, will be disqualified. Even if we have to behave like the godfather, we will do it.”
“Anybody who parades thugs is an enemy of ACN,” Oshiomhole stressed.
The governor said that the exercise was to build the strength of the party and return power to the people.
Oshiomhole said preliminary investigation into the incident at Ora, had revealed that thugs were hired to disrupt the exercise.
He added that police engaged them in a shoot-out which resulted to the killing of one person.
The governor assured prospective members that sufficient cards will be supplied to the state.
He said it is not true that those registered first will be eligible to vote in the primaries.
In another development, a total of 141 indigent students of Esan South East local government area of Edo, studying in various tertiary institutions in the country on Wednesday, benefited from a bursary award worth N1.4 million.
The chairman of the council, Mr Andrew Ojeimhekele, who provided the bursary, said he was moved by the situation of most students studying in tertiary institutions, urging government at all levels to do whatever they could to assist indigent students.
He said: “I was driven into giving this bursary because I discovered that over 80 per cent of students in tertiary institutions are from poor homes.”
“Some of them cannot afford to pay school fees and most of these parents go borrowing to educate their children. We felt in our own little way, we could assist them with something like this.”
“The council always makes provision for people like these in terms of bursary award. Last year, a total of 247 students benefited, while 141 will benefit this year.”
“As a council chairman, I know that it is my statutory duty to pay salary of council staff and perform other duties as captured in the constitutional responsibility of councils, in doing this however, I ensure I make budgetary plan for indigent students.
Meanwhile, the beneficiaries, who are all final year students at various institutions of higher learning got N10,000 each.

Kalabari Media Forum Hails Recognition Of Dokubo Asari As Amayanabo
The Kalabari Media Forum has endorsed the recognition of Alabo, Alhaji Mujaheed Dokubo Asari as the Amayanabo of Torusarama Piri and the historical relevance of the award.
A communique issued after the 2024 end of year summit of the Forum also commends the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminialaye Joseph Fubara for the recognition which they described as the best end of year gift to the Kalabari people.
The Communique signed by the Coordinator of the Forum, Alabo Dagogo Clinton and the Secretary, Mr. Harry Awolayeofori Macmorrison states that the gesture should make the Kalabari people to get back to the drawing board and consolidate on existing inter and intra communal peace within the region.
According to the statement, Torusarama Piri was the first place where the founding fathers of Kalabari converged from different cultures, tribes and backgrounds. Adding that those saying that the Kalabari people are not united should think again.
” As the different founding fathers were able to form a formidable ethnic nationality, modern day Kalabari should be able to sink the differences between the constituent communities and with other non-Kalabari speaking neighbours to achieve the needed internal cohesion for development”. It states.
The Forum further congratulated Alabo Asari Dokubo on his recognition and urged him to use the opportunity to do even more for the Kalabari people and Rivers State as a whole.
According to the statement, the Forum is happy with the recognition of Dokubo Asari not because he is one of the patrons of the Forum, but because he is about the most Kalabari-centric figure living, who has also committed enormous resources for the protection of the Kalabari people.
They urged the Kalabari Se Kobiri and the entire people of the ethnic nationality to work with Alabo Dokubo Asari and put to rest speculations about Kalabari that some persons have exploited against the interest of the Kalabari people over the years.
