Gen Minimah’s Promotion, Rivers Upliftment – Amaechi
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has described as “historic and symbolic the divine upliftment for the State, the promotion of Rivers State-born Kenneth Minimah to the rank of Major General and his appointment as General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division of the Nigerian Army.
Governor Amaechi said this during a Thanksgiving Service and Civic Reception for Major Gen. Minimah at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Opobo Town in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of the State.
Governor Amaechi, who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for the honour bestowed on “a son of the State” and assigning Gen. Minimah to head one out of the five Commanding Divisions in the Army.
Expressing gratitude to God for elevating Gen. Minimah against all odds, the State Chief Executive noted that “his promotion has given us a pride of place in the scheme of things in the country,” adding that “this is the first time a Rivers’ son has attained that position,” urging Gen. Minimah to keep up the good work that got him to that position.
Speaking, the Amanyanabo of Opobo, His Majesty, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, commended the Nigerian military for their efforts at ensuring peace in the Niger Delta region, noting that the militancy crisis served to forge greater bonds of unity among communities in the region, calling on the people of Opobo to register en masse to’ vote in the forthcoming polls, stressing that “good governance starts with credible elections”.
In a sermon titled “Every Dream is for an Appointed Time”, the Vicar of the church, Venerable Michele Uranta, quoting from Luke 2:6, declared that “at the appointed time, Major Gen. Minimah was promoted,” saying “when God gives a dream, it must happen no matter how long it takes” .
Ven. Uranta noted that the time has come for Nigerians to place God-fearing people in charge of the nation’s affairs, urging Christians to be more involved in the process of producing leaders by registering during the Voters Registration and participate fully in the forthcoming General Elections.
Dignitaries that graced the occasion include the former Deputy Governor of the State, Sir Gabriel Toby, former Special Adviser to the President on t’Jiger Delta Affairs, Mr. Timi Alaibe, the State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Dakuku Peterside, Commanding Officer, Nigerian Naval Ship (NNS) Wey, Commodore Emmanuel Ofik, Chairman, Bonny Council of Chiefs, Alabo Reginald AbbeyHart, among others.
