Sharks Secure Away Victory In Abuja
A 29th minute goal by Terry Envoh on Wednesday in Abuja gave visiting Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt a 1-0 win over hosts Plateau United FC of Jos.
In the rescheduled Nigerian Premier League match played at the Old Parade Ground, Sharks took advantage of their best scoring chance to pick the full points.
The match saw Sharks taking the game in hand when Envoh chested down a pullout before knocking the ball past goalkeeper Isah Abdul.
Efforts thereafter by Plateau United to draw level were thwarted as the visitors resorted to massive defending and counter-attacking to contain their opponents.
Plateau United were, however, not helped by their poor finishing in front of goal, missing numerous valuable scoring opportunities as the game wore to an end.
Plateau United’s Technical Adviser, Ndubuisi Nduka, said the defeat was a disappointment for his team in spite of their efforts.
“We tried our best, but it was disappointing that we had to lose.
“We will go back to correct our lapses and ensure we get something better from our remaining games,” he said.
On his part, Sharks FC’s Technical Adviser, John Obuh, said his team had to slow down the pace of their game after their opponents resorted to a more robust game.
“We were forced into two substitutions late in the first half as a result of the way our opponents started playing, and we only needed to keep up to maintain our lead in the second half,” he said.
Obuh, who is also the Flying Eagles head coach, said the win was good for his team and would give them more confidence to face their home match this weekend against Kaduna United.
“It is a good result for us and it will help us be in the right frame of mind for the home match this weekend,” he said.
The match was played in Abuja as a result of the lingering crisis in Jos which had prevented the state’s two Premier League clubsides from hosting their home matches in the state.
The two clubs, Plateau United and JUTH FC will, however, play their home matches in Jos as from this weekend.
This was after the league organisers, the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), received security guarantees from the Special Task Force in Jos and it gave approval for the clubs to resume playing there.

Ogba, Others Endorse Niger Delta Sports Festival
Vice president of the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), Chief Solomon Ogba, foremost Sports Marketer and founder of Okpekpe Road Race, Mike Itemuagbor and top Sports Journalist and Media Strategist, Mitchel Obi have lent their voices in support of the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF).
The personalities with backgrounds in sports administration, marketing and media spoke separately in commendation of the festival, an initiative of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) with Dunamis Icon as consultants.
“This is a positive addition to the evolving sports business ecosystem because it is not just a springboard for identifying talents, it also offers a platform to truly hone the skills of those already discovered”, remarked Obi, who served as Special Advisor to a former Sports Minister, late Anthony Ikhazabor.
He said the festival will be a flagship event in the region that would trigger interest in sports among the youths and people of the region.
Edo State-born Itemuagbor commended the NDDC for the decision to add sports in the list of their intervention projects in the region, adding that: “This speaks directly to the problem of youth restiveness which is of great concern to our people.”

Onyedika Not Sure For Super Eagles W’C Qualifiers
Raphael Onyedika has now emerged as a major doubt for the Super Eagles’ must-win 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe later this month.
The midfielder was forced out early from last week’s league game against Standard Liege.
He has not recovered from the injury and so will miss today’s league match against Gent and may also miss a UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash against Aston Villa yesterday.
The Super Eagles take on Rwanda in Kigali on March 21, before they face Zimbabwe in Uyo four days later in crucial World Cup qualifiers.

The former Watford FC defender has competed in the tournament three times but has yet to lift the trophy.
