NULGE Urges Intervention In Health Workers’ Crisis
Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Opobo/Nkoro, Comrade Stanley Pepple has called on the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission (RSLGSC) to intervene in the recent crisis relating to the welfare of health workers at the grassroot areas.
Comrade Pepple who made the call at Opobo Town over the Weekend said RSLGSC intervention was imperative in order to resolve the lingering labour face –off between health workers and the councils in the state.
He also called on the Medical and Health Workers Union at the local government areas to channel their grievances through RSLGSC, since that is the only authority that could compel the local authorities to pay the new workers pay.
His words, “For me, it is the Rivers State Local Government Services Commission that would raise a circular to all the local government councils to effect changes in salary as it affect workers”.
Comrade Pepple while frowning at the poor implementation of monthly claims to workers at the grassroot areas assured that the new NULGE executive in Opobo/Nkoro would pursue the welfare of workers in the area.
He assured that staffers of the council who have not gotten their 28 days allowance would get them as NULGE was poised to working with the new council chairman to reduce plight of workers.
The Opobo/Nkoro NULGE boss disclosed plans by the body to construct a new canteen for workers of the council pointing out the area does not have a good eatery for workers.
