Sylva Condoles Norwageans Over Bomb Attack
Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, has sent a condolence message to the government and people of the Kingdom of Norway over last weekend’s twin terror attack which claimed about 100 lives in the country.
On Friday, bomb explosion rocked public buildings in Oslo, the nation’s capital. This was followed by a shooting spree at a youth camp in the Norwegian island of Utoya.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Doifie Ola, disclosed that Sylva in a condolence letter to the Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria said, “My thoughts go out to the friends and relatives of the victims of this incident. This is a tragedy not only for the people of Norway, it is an attack on the common humanity that we share, a tragedy that once again reminds us of the collective danger and burden we face as members of civilized humanity in a world that increasingly harbours hate ideologies, fundamentalists and extremists”.
According to him, such terror attack is “unacceptable in a free and democratic world” no matter the grievance of its mastermind or group of masterminds.
The governor pointed out that Norway is known in the world as “an oasis of peace, a paradise of democracy and order in the middle of Scandinavia that has been a great attraction to other countries and an enormous positive influence on the world around you”.
“Our hearts are with you as you try to find answers to these killings that have upset the peace and order that are some of the strongest features of your country. But we are consoled by the stronger feeling of global closeness and resolve the act of terrorism in your country has brought among civilized humanity. The tragedy in Norway has left the world with a greater determination and inspiration to win the war on terror. Those killed in the incidents certainly have not died in vain”, the governor remarked.
“The Government and people of Bayelsa State of Nigeria stand by you as you try to get over this tragedy and rebuild. You are in our thoughts and prayers”, Sylva added.
