Abe Urges Co-operation In Tackling Nation’s Challenges
The Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe has appealed to Nigerians to join hands in tackling the challenges of this country and proffer solutions to them.
Senator Abe, who made the call when executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, paid him a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt, said the design of this country is faulty and therefore needed a change.
According to him, Nigeria could be re-designed to create wealth and change its present poor situation to a healthy nation and therefore urged Nigerians to think about the future of this country rather than concerning themselves with activities of the National Assembly, which as an institution, belonged to them.
The Senator further said Nigerians should inculcate the habit of confidence on the National Assembly because it is a symbol of democracy and for that reason members were elected to represented them from different parts of this country.
Senator Abe noted that if Nigerians do not support and invest in the Assembly, it cannot serve its purpose for which it was set up adding that they should have a rethink about their negative impressions and rather consider its values to the advancement of democracy and betterment of the country. He assured members of the NUJ of his support towards the forthcoming press week but cautioned over the activities of quacks in the profession whose activities have contributed negatively to the growth of society.
Earlier, the chairman of NUJ, Rivers State Council, Mr Opaka Dokubo, had lauded Senator Abe on his vibrant representation at the Senate since his election and enjoined him not to relent by bringing his wealth of experience as a former lawmaker in the state, former commissioner and former secretary to the Rivers State government.
Mr Opaka said the people of Rivers State are very proud of him and confident that with people like him, Nigeria and indeed the National Assembly will experience a change, and also thanked him for the warm reception accorded members while assuring him of their support at all times.
