Monarchs To Meet Amaechi Over Traditional Institution
A high-powered delegation of government recognised Traditional Rulers in Rivers State is to meet with Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi on ways of strengthening the Traditional institution in the state.
A resolution to meet with the state Governor was taken at 83rd Quarterly General meeting of the council held at its secretariat in Port Harcourt, last Friday.
The Council noted in an address presented by its Chairman, HM King Prof T.J.T. Princewill, Amachree XI, Amanyanabo of Kalabari Kingdom, that poor funding caused by government bureaucracy had impeded efforts by the Council to effectively perform its statutory functions in the state.
Top on the issue expected to dominate discussions include Council’s inability to hold regular Council meetings and indebtedness.
Council members were optimistic that the proposed dialogue with the governor would find a lasting solution to these impediments.
The royal fathers, however, used the opportunity to once more, congratulate Governor Amaechi on his well deserved re-election for a second term in office and his recent elevation as Chairman of the Governor’s Forum in Nigeria.
On the latest bomb blasts in the Federal Capital that claimed the lives of no fewer than 23 persons with dozens injured, the royal fathers called on the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to book and described the attack as an assault on the nations freedom and that of the international community.
According to them, those behind the dastardly act are “simply criminals relishing in borrowed extremism.”
In his speech, the Representative of the Governor at the meeting, who is also the Commissioner of Local Government / Chieftaincy / Community Affairs Hon Charles Okaye thanked the royal fathers for their support of government policies and programmes and assured that he would deliver their message as advised.
