C’River PDP Begins Membership Drive
The Cross River Chapter of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Calabar on Monday inaugurated committees to supervise a membership revalidation and registration in the 18 local government areas.
Inaugurating the committees, the Chairman of the party, Ntufam Ekpo Okon, said the exercise would end within the month but could be extended by the national leadership.
“A state-wide party membership registration and revalidation exercise has begun in the 196 political wards in the state.
“We have put together these committees to monitor and supervise to make sure that the exercise is rancour-free.’’
He said that 250 registration cards would be given to each of the 196 wards to be paid for.
Okon said that people, 18 years and above should be allowed to register after fulfilling the party’s regulations.
“If you are not a financial member of the party you will not be allowed to vote and be voted for,’’ he said.
The chairman said that the money generated from the registration would be shared among the wards, state, local government and national level.
“ The ward will get 20 per cent, 15 per cent for the local government, 10 per cent for the state, 5 per cent for the zone while 50 per cent is for the national,’’ he said.
He said that the party was collecting N600 from every member as party dues in a year.
“The sum of N50 will be collected monthly from the members during the registration exercise,’’ he said.
