Sylva Orders Probe Into Police Checkpoint Killing
Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva has ordered the State Police Command, to investigate immediately the killing of a young man said to be a mobile trader, recently at a Police Check Point.
The man whose name was given as Victor Emmanuel from Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area in neighboring Rivers State, and a member of the Christ Embassy was returning from church service on the fateful day when the incident occurred.
In a press statement signed by his second Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Atasia Oburu, Chief Sylva described the incident as unfortunate and needs proper investigation to unravel the truth of what happened.
He said, thorough investigation, will not only ensure that justice was done but also bring the culprits of the mindless killing to book.
According to the statement as an administration noted for its fairness and justice as its pillar, the state will not fold its arms and innocent citizens suffer any form of untimely death in the hands of over zealous law enforcement officers.
“It pointed out the need for everybody to obey the rule of law in the present democratic norms prevailing in the country as whole and Bayelsa State in particular in carrying out any form of duty allow by the law. ‘’
Governor Sylva, used the opportunity to condole members of Christ Embassy and the families of the deceased, saying that God who is the author and finishers of our life will give them the fortitude the bear the irreparable loss.
He, however, appeals to the residents of the state capital to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or intimidation.
