RSG Approves Public Service Training Institute
The Rivers State Government, has approved the construction of a public service training institute in the state for effective training and re-training of her workforce.
The Head of Service (HOS), Mrs. Esther Anucha made this known recently at the 24th Annual National Conference of the Chartered Institute of Certified Secretaries and Reporters held in Port Harcourt.
Mrs. Anucha said the institute, which would be sited in the outskirts of Port Harcourt, was in fulfilment of the state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s avowed stance to enhance the service delivery capacity of the public service workforce to enable them actualise the development goals of the state government.
She extolled Gvoernor Amaechi for his massive support in building the capacities of workers especially the award of scholarship to public servants to further their education, allocation of office accommodation to the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria to open its South-South Zonal Office in Port Harcourt and sponsorship of management staff to attend training workshops/conferences locally and abroad, among others.
The head of service, who was conferred with a Fellowship Award of the institute, said capacity building had always been given priority in the activities and programmes of her office and commended the institute for their efforts in Promoting standards and excellence in the practice and application of secretarial and reportorial skills.
Mrs. Anucha, who expressed gratitude for the Fellowship Award and appointment as Matron of the Rivers State Chapter of the institute, said the award would serve as a stimulus to improve on her performance and achieve more for the state public service and promised to do her best to meet their expectations.
The head of service further advised them to discharge their duties with decorum and abide by the ethics of the profession especially the oath of secrecy considering the prominent role they play in the successes of any organisation. In their separate speeches, the Registrar General, Mr. Samuel Ozomah, the president of the institute, Mrs. Rosemary Ajufoh, and the State chairman, Mr. Omevem Okagbo, reiterated the commitment of the institute to promoting standards in the education and practice of the profession.
Highpoint of the conference was the investiture of the head of service as fellow of the institute and appointment as Matron of the Rivers State Chapter.
The conference, which was attended by delegates from all states of the federation, had the theme, “Office Management and Technology – the Role of Verbatim Reporters, Secretaries and Administrative Professionals”.
