Police Parade Arms Dealers, Cultist In PH
The Rivers State Police Command, has arrested two arms dealers and a cultist who specialise in fuelling criminal activities in the state.
The police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Ben Ugwuegbulam who paraded the suspects at the police officers mess, Port Harcourt Friday, said the suspects were arrested in various parts of the state.
The arrested arms dealers include a 54 year old man, Mr. Celestine Ihunwor from Omademe in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State, Patrick Azubuike and Ugochukwu Ugworem from Abatueke in Imo State.
The police image maker said that the 54 year old man was arrested by the police at Rumukpokwu special check point, Thursday in possession of 12 long single barrel locally made guns, one short locally made single barrel, 3 broken balt and three lives BBS catridges
DSP Ugwuegbulam also explained that Mr. Patrick Azubuike was arrested in possession of one pump action gun, 504 live catridges while Ugochukwu Ugoworem, a cultist was arrested in possession of two AK47 rifles snatched from police mobile force personnel of the state police command.
According to the police public relations officer, the arrested persons have confessed their activities in the arms deal which also included supplying several ammunition to undisclosed buyers in Rivers and Anambra States.
He further disclosed that the suspects had given useful information that would assist the police crackdown criminal activities in the state, adding that the police and other security agencies were repositioned to provide the needed security of lives and property in the state.
He called on the public to assist the police by providing information that will help them fight crimes in the state, noting that the major achievements recorded by police in the state were attributed to the information received from the public.
