NDDC Set To Empower Women
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) will soon start its skills acquisition programme for women in the Niger Delta, an official of the commission has said.
A director in the commission, Mr Ekanem Princewill, who disclosed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, said the programme would be carried out in conjunction with the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
He said that women with a first school leaving certificate and, who are between the ages of 18 years and 35 years, would benefit from the programme.
Princewill said the training would equip the participants with skills such as hat-making, baking, juice-processing, interior decoration and production of air freshener and detergent.
Others are hair and cloth weaving and fixing, basket and mat making, confectionaries, beautification, horticulture, crafts, photography and videography as well as cosmetology.
Princewill said the participants would also be trained in income generation to further boost Small and Medium Enterprises in the area.
He advised interested participants to collect their forms from the state offices of the commission or any SPDC community interface coordinator in the region.
According to him, January, . 31 is the closing date for the collection and submission of forms.
