Tukur Promises Dependable Democracy, If…
Peoples Democatic Party
(PDP) national chairmanship hopeful in tomorrow’s national convention of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, says he would work towards dependable democracy if elected the national chairman of the party.
Alhaji Tukur stated this in Government House, Yenagoa when he visited the Bayelsa Stategovernor, Hon. Seriake Dickson to solicit his support in the party elections coming up this weekend.,
Tukur, a former Governor of old Gongola State lamented that the party which started with thirty governors at its inception now has 24, stressing the need to re-mobilise aggrieved members who have left the party with a view to bringing them back to its fold, by providing a platform that will guarantee equity, fairness and trust.
Without this, he said they may not withstand the test of time, in its role to drive the country to formidable democratic structure that will endear it to entire civilised world.
Alhaji Tukur said at this moment, the party needed a matured leadership. who had been tested, trusted with detribalised mind to handly its affairs, and urged the entire Bayelsa State delegates to vote for him.
Responding, Hon Dickson described Alhaji Tukur as “an experienced, seasoned and consummate business man”,Governor Dickson called on the aspirant to bring his extensive national and trans-national business contacts to bear on the investment climate of the state.
On Saturday’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention in Abuja, the Governor charged delegates to vote only for detribalised candidates who are capable of expanding the frontiers of unity and the transformation agenda of both the party and the country.
Hon. Dickson noted that though the decision as to who emerges as the chairman of the party will be the prerogative of the Convention, delegates representing the state are experienced enough to vote for a leadership that will serve the best interest of the state, President Jonathan, the party and the country at large.
