Kidnapped Suspects Nabbed In Delta
Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta said that 11 persons had been arrested in connection with series of recent kidnapped cases in the state.
The governor revealed this in Asaba while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state’s Security Council meeting.
Uduaghan said that the success recorded in the arrest of the suspects was due to the efforts of the security agencies in the state.
He said that in order to sustain the fight against crime, especially kidnapping, the state government had initiated the process of reorganising vigilante services.
The governor said that members of the vigilante services would be trained in information gathering techniques.
He said they would also be adequately equipped to enable them to assist security agencies in crime prevention.
According to him, vigilante groups are important in the gathering of information and we need to properly reorganise them and make them more useful in the security network in the state.
He said that some youths would also be trained in information gathering and drafted into vigilante groups to strengthen the system.
Uduaghan disclosed that communities harbouring some of the criminals in the state had been identified.
He said that the leaders of such communities would be held responsible for any crime traced to persons living among them.
The governor advised families of kidnapped victims to report such cases to security agencies and also to liaise with them in negotiating the release of their relations.
He also disclosed that the state was reinforcing security between it and its neighbours’ to ensure that hoodlums from those states did not infiltrate into Delta.
