Mrs Amaechi Advocates Education Policy For The Disabled
Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has made a case for an education policy for the less-privileged and persons living with disability.
Mrs. Amaechi stated this during the commissioning of the Christie Toby inclusive Education Centre.
She stated that though investment in the education of persons with disabilities may be enormous its reward to the society is very significant.
Appraising the contribution of the disabled people to national development, the governor’s wife, noted that some special persons in the society have brought honour to the country.
“Recently, we have seen the exploits of persons with disability in various field of endeavour and have brought honour and laurel to our country in sport, academics and other areas, this goes to show that there is ability in disability.”
She stated that the welfare of the physically challenged is the responsibility of every Nigerian and not the government alone.
Mrs. Amaechi who is the Founder of Empowerment Support Initiative said her NGO is also preparing handicap children for a transition from home to school with a view to moulding their psychology and learning process. “Foundation education is carding and bedrock to the success of the education of a child and ESI poised to preparing the children for the challenges ahead,” she said.
