Bayelsa Earmarks N2.5bn For Topography Mapping
The Bayelsa government is to spend about N2.5 billion on mapping the topography of the state for effective planning and implementation of cities and towns, including Yenagoa, the state capital.
The state Commissioner for Capital City Development, Hon. Zuwa Konugha, disclosed this in Yenagoa on Monday when he received the mapping plan proposal from an Abuja-based firm, SIRAJ Group of Companies.
Also present at the ceremony were the commissioners of Lands and Survey, Mr Furoebi Akene and that of Works and Infrastructure, Mr Lawrence Erudjakpo.
Konugha said that the idea of engaging development experts was to ensure the institution of a good land registry in the state, adding that discussions had commenced with SIRAJ Consulting Engineering Company on modalities for the execution of the project.
He said: “Bayelsa Government wants to ensure that a computerised data base is established where people will have access to land registry and Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O). “This government is poised to develop the state to a 21st century urban city through the Bayelsa Geographical Information System (BGIS) and even replicate what is seen in our Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. “The government cannot achieve this alone that is why we are engaging the development experts.’’
Konugha said that the project would create jobs for Bayelsans at various levels.
While presenting the proposal, Mr Roland Klaus of SIRAJ company described it as a comprehensive platform comprising a digital process that would empower the government with actionable data.
Klaus said that the digital aerial mapping would aid planning, construction and implementation of government projects with ease.
He said that SIRAJ was in Bayelsa to render services in line with Gov Seriake Dickson’s Restoration Agenda to move the state forward.
“The governor is determined to change the present look of Bayelsa, and we are here to help him actualise that dream through effective planning.’’
According to him, the company has been in Nigeria since 1992 and currently operates in 10 states as well as Abuja.
The proposed project is part of the state government’s efforts to curb the perennial flooding in the state.
