Group Donates To Less Privileged
A
socio-political organization, Destiny
Group has donated food items, toiletries and sanitary wears worth thousands of
naira to orphanages across Calabar metropolis as part of its social
responsibility to the society.
Presenting
the items to the Destiny Child’s Centre, Calabar, a rehabilitation centre
initiated by wife of the state governor, Mrs. Obioma Liyel Imoke, to carter for
street and vulnerable children, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Edak
Iwuchukwu, said that the gesture was in appreciation of her commitment to the
less privileged in the state by providing them with a home with a view to
changing their destinies.
She
maintained that the group whose membership cuts across political appointees by
the Senator Liyel Imoke, was moved by the love, passion and dedication the wife
of the governor exhibited in bringing succor to the vulnerable children and
thought it wise to be part of the success story by contributing its quota to
enhance their lives.
While
advising the children to be of good behavior and take their studies seriously
to complement effort of the founder of the home, Mrs. Iwuchukwu urged the home
attendants to demonstrate self-sacrifice in their daily service to humanity and
prayed God to reward them accordingly.
She
prayed God to strengthen, empower and encourage Mrs. Imoke to continue her good
work to the people of Cross River as she lends her support to her husband,
Senator Liyel Imoke in taking government to those who need it most.
Responding,
the Project Manager, Destiny Child’s Centre, Mr. Gerald Umeze, who expressed
deep appreciation to the group for its benevolence, said the home which is
currently harboring 95 inmates, all of whom are in schools and 13 on various
vocational training.
He
solicited assistance from other public-spirited bodies to enable the Centre
sustain its effort of transforming the lives of street children and make them
useful citizens to the society by donating to the Centre regularly.
