RSG Plans Steady Power Supply
Rivers State Government said it is working hard to achieve steady power supply in the state.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr Chuma Chinye, said this, when a team of delegates, “of UBI France and Sabine Kulasin of Total France” visited the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines of Agriculture (PHCCIMA).
Chinye said that power is essential for sustainable development, pointing out that government has also built a friendly environment for investors to aid economic development.
Also speaking, the president of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) Engr. Emeka Unachukwu, said the reason why foreign investors were brought in was to increase the capacity that is lacking in Nigeria though “we have the facilities”.
He stressed that the investment environment is facing some challenges due to inadequate power supply, adding that government is taking a very strong proactive step to strengthen the sector.
Unachukwu commended the government for putting infrastructure in place which makes for smooth flow of business. He also pointed out that security and inconsistency in government policy have been major challenges.
He, however, said that despite the challenges, Nigeria still remains the best destination for investment and advised investors to invest in the country.
Earlier the Amayanabo of Tuo Brass who was the former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Alfred Diete Spiff thanked the French investors for coming to invest in the state and drew their attention to the opportunities that abound in the agricultural sector.
Also speaking, the former president of Commerce , Industry , Mines and Agriculture, Dr Vincent Furo said there should be conducive environment for business, adding that with steady power supply, there will be development that will enhance job creation in the state.
