NGO Mobilises Women To Check Social Vices
Women have been iden
tified as key players in community development.
Country Director, Search for Common Ground (SFCG), a non-governemntal organisation, Mr Chom Bagu, stated this at a press briefing recently organised by Tomorrow is a New Day (TND) a project of SFCG.
Bagu said women were pivotal in the upbringing of children and youths and should be included in decision making processes.
He explained the women were closest to young persons and were almost always the first point of contact in times of crises and charged them to live up to their responsibility.
He explained that TND is a European Union (EU) sponsored programme, designed to find solutions to community level conflicts and rehabilitation of ex-militants and unemployed youths.
He further said, the programme, which started in 2011, has worked with 8,000 persons consisting of women and youths including 336 ex-militants in seven communities in three Niger Delta States.
