NDDC Assures On Early Completion Of Roads
The Niger Delta
Development Commission (NDDC), has re-stated its commitment to executing high quality projects and programmes that would facilitate growth and serve the people of Nigeria’s oil-producing region.
Speaking when he inspected some NDDC projects in Delta State, the Managing Director of the Commission, Barr. Bassey Dan- Abia, said that much as the new board was in a hurry to complete on-going projects, it would not compromise on quality.
The Managing Director, who was accompanied by the Executive Director Projects, Engr. Tuoyo Omatsuli and the Delta State representative on the board of the NDDC, Hon. Tom Amioku, inspected the 42.6-kilometre Iselegu/Utagba-Uno/Obiaruku and the 18-kilometre Ugiliama/Eweshi/Ogume/Abbi roads in Ndokwa West local government area of Delta State.
They also inspected the newly completed proto-type hostel building at the Delta State University in Abraka.
Dan-Abia said that the new leadership of the NDDC was making a conscious effort to complete and hand over quality projects that would be of immense benefit to the people of the Niger Delta.
He expressed satisfaction with the high standard of work on the two roads, noting that the indigenous construction company that executed the jobs had set a benchmark for other contractors working for the NDDC.
He said: “This is a good job by any standard. It is the kind of thing that we are looking forward to seeing. Our critics need to see projects like this to appreciate the efforts of the NDDC.”
The Managing Director promised that the Iselegu – Obiaruku road, which he described as the longest NDDC road in the Niger Delta, would be commissioned in the next one month.
According to him, this was necessary because the commission was in a hurry to develop the Niger Delta to support the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
At the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka campus, the NDDC team also applauded the contractor that executed the 176-room modern hostel, which is now ready for the students to occupy.
Dan-Abia assured the students that everything was set for the formal handing over of the hostel to the university authorities for their use.
He said that the hostel was a good example of the high standard for which the NDDC would now be identified. “This is a proof that we are not just executing political projects. We are rather delivering projects that touch the lives of the people and are equally sustainable,” Dan-Abia said.
