Edo Council Inaugurates 104 Public Toilets
The Chairman, Oredo
Local Government Council of Edo State, Mr Osaro Obazee, inaugurated 104 toilet facilities last Thursday in his effort to avert an epidemic in the state capital.
The convenience facilities were built for the use of traders and the public at the Oba market in the council area.
At the inauguration of the project, the council boss explained that his decision to embark on the project was to ensure a comfortable means of convenience for traders and members of the general public in the area.
He said he was alarmed during a visit to the market upon his assumption of office, that the people defecated in an open environment.
“This was not only alarming but constituted a health hazard as well. It was to avert the looming epidemic that I took the decision to embark on this project,” he stressed.
While urging the people to ensure a proper maintenance of the facilities, he reiterated the desire of his administration to ensure an improved standard of living for the people.
Meanwhile, Obazee promised to work towards restoration of electricity supply to the market.
He, however, warned that for the realisation of the objective, there was need for the traders to have a change of attitude towards the payment of electricity bills.
The Oba market has been without electricity for over a year, owing to an accumulated debt of N25 million in electricity bills.
