Fashion Explodes In Port Harcourt
To say that the just-con
cluded Native and Vogue Port Harcourt International Fashion Week was an outstanding success would be stating the obvious . From 19th to 21st of September, 2014, the Garden City was held spell bound as the world’s biggest names in both the modeling and designing realm converged at Hotel Presidential to celebrate the totality of African fashion.
Participating designers, models, makeup artists, back stage crew, all brought their A-game and delivered what is undoubtedly one of the biggest fashion events in Africa.
The first day of the second edition of the annual fashion show saw the State Governor, Hon Chibuike Amaechi, welcoming guests and participants to Rivers of Possibilities.
He explained that the state government got involved in the fashion event as a way of helping the youths of the state actualise their dreams and aspirations as well as giving them the opportunity to jump-start their budding careers.
The fashion week kicked-off thereafter with glamorous models strutting down the runway in different cuts, shapes, colours and forms to show-case breathtaking designs.
From dramatic flow-length dresses to dreamy, light-as-the-air ensembles, to innovative artsy numbers to avant-garde designs, participating designers over the three glamourous days of fashion culture, left everyone pleasantly dazzled further confirming the fact that Africa has come of age in fashion. The more exciting part of the show was the presence of international models like Milen Majese.
Home grown models equally proved their worth, giving the walk of their lives every time they hit the run way. To add colour to the glitzy event were musical performances by Chidimma, K cee and 2face Idibia.
The week ended in grand style with Allure Vanguard style award with accolades being handed out to deserving models, designers make up artists, style icon.
A Port Harcourt-based designer, Ibitein Thompson, emerged winner of the young designers competition and was issued a blank cheque by the Rivers State government with a promise of one year all expenses paid training in a fashion school in South Africa.
