2015: Ex-Commissioner Dissociates Self From Aspirant’s Adoption
A former Commissioner
for Agriculture in Rivers State and a member of the Andoni Chiefs Council, Chief (Hon.) Gad Harry Ekpirikpo, has dissociated himself from the purported endorsement of Major Launcelot Anyanya (rtd.) for the governorship of Rivers State by the Chiefs’ Council.
Chief Ekpirikpo who spoke to newsmen in Port Harcourt against the background of his purported involvement in the adoption also described as false some statements credited to him to the effect that it is only candidates from Andoni or Opobo/Nkoro that are qualified to occupy the Brick House next year.
He said that the issue of Andoni or Opobo/Nkoro candidates was never discussed at the meeting, while the purported riverine upland dichotomy issue never arose at the meeting.
Chief Ekirikpo explained that his presence at the meeting which took place at the Delta Hotels, Port Harcourt was based on invitation extended to him by the secretary of the Andoni chiefs’ council.
According to him, as a member of the Andoni chiefs’ council, he was also invited to the meeting, stressing that at the meeting, the council did not endorse anyone for governorship of Rivers State.
Chief Ekpirikpo described his alleged involvement in the adoption of Anyanya as mischievous and a calculated attempt to whip up sentiment, and daint his political image.
He challenged those peddling the rumour to come out with their proof or evidence that he said such things.
The former Commissioner said that his stand on the issue of Rivers Governorship is that merit should not be sacrificed on the alter of dichotomy stressing that his stand is that merit excellence and the best hands should be allowed to rule and not dichotomy.
Chief Ekirikpo used the occasion to call on the general public to discountenance the report.
