RSG Tasks Military On Selfless Service
The Rivers State Government
has tasked officers and men of the Nigerian Military to be selfless and patriotic in their service to the nation.
Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mrs Ibim Semenitari who said this during a courtesy call on her by team Eight of the 23rd sect of Students of the National Defence college Abuja, said that Nigeria is lucky to have a well-trained military and urged them to be patriotic and committed to the ideal of service to the country.
Mrs Semenitari said that being a soldier means that one is ready to lay down his life for his country.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner has said that the State Government is deeply committed towards improving the quality of lives of the people.
Addressing the team Eight of the 23rd sect of students of the National Defence College Abuja, she said that the government has engaged on several progammes to eradicate poverty and create a conducive environment for the development of the state.
She listed some of the engagements to include, the construction of over 300 primary schools out of which 160 are being put into use and the construction of model health centres across the state as well as the development of the Agricultural Sector to create employment for youths in the state.
Mrs Semenitari said that the graduate internship programme of the government is yielding result as more Rivers graduates were being engaged by companies in the state, while some youths were being sponsored abroad to undertake oil and gas related courses.
On Urban renewal, which is the focus of the study tour of the State, the Commissioner said that, the government has embarked on the demolition of waterfronts to check the activities of criminals who use the waterfronts as their hideouts to terrorise the people.
She also said that, the Greater Port Harcourt City Programme which crisscrossed about nine Local Government Areas, was meant to restore the aesthetic beauty of Port Harcourt City.
The team leader, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Aliyu said that the sect which was divided into nine, was on a fact finding mission round the country.
Brig. Gen. Aliyu said that the theme of the tour to the state is “Socio Economic Development through Urban Renewal in Rivers State” and described the National Defence College Abuja as one of the highest strategic military training institutions in Nigeria and Africa.
Later in an interview with newsmen the team leader expressed satisfaction with the level of development in Rivers State.
