Assembly Committee Hails Khana LG Boss
The Rivers State House of
Assembly has expressed confidence in the ability of the new caretaker committee chairman of Khana Local Government Council, Chief Gordon Tornwe to deliver on his mandate to the people.
Chairman, House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Mr Lucky Odili made the remarks when members of the committee visited Khana Local Government Council Secretariat, Bori in continuation of their oversight tour of local government areas in the state.
Odili said with Chief Gordon Tornwe’s wealth of experience as a onetime Council Chairman, he was optimistic that the council would witness unprecedented development.
The House Committee Chairman disclosed that the visit was to oversight the council with a view to understanding the challenges and make appropriate recommendations, adding that they are not on a witchhunting exercise.
Earlier, the Caretaker Committee chairman of Khana local government, Chief Gordon Tornwe had said he was elated to receive the committee members and assured that he would run on open and inclusive administration in the area.
Tornwe also told the House Committee on local government affairs that he would give priority to the issue of empowerment in the area as contained in Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s charge to them, adding that he has introduced a system where the people at the grassroots would feel the impact of the administration.
The members later undertook a tour of some projects in the council including the new INEC office donated by the council following the destruction of the former INEC office by fire sometime ago.
Other members of the team include Mrs Victoria Nyeche, Mr Gift Wokocha, House Deputy Leader, Robinson Ewo, Okechukwu Wogu, and the member representing Khana Constituency I, Mr Legborsi Nwidaada.
