Nigeria: World Bank Spends N75.2bn On Agric Projects

missioner for Agriculture, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, has revealed at a press conference in Lagos that the $200 million National Fadama Development Project (FADAMA) grant was accessed by six states while the remaining $180 million was accessed by five states including Lagos.
He also revealed that not less than $ 380 million, about N 75.2 billion has been spent by the World Bank on the development of agriculture in Lagos and some other states of the country in the last eight years.
A breakdown of the figure showed that $180 million was spent on Commercial Agriculture development Project (CADP) while $200 million was spent on the FADAMA.
The Lagos Agric boss said as a result of the performance of the state in the World Bank assisted project, the state has been selected among six others to benefit from the $25 million grant from the World Bank for 2015.
He explained further that about 3,000 birds died during the recent onset of the bird flu in Lagos State.
According to him, about 2,000 birds were killed in one farm and 500 birds each in two other farms.
He added that 10 birds were also killed in a zoo on the Lekki axis even as he said that there was currently no incidence of bird flu in the state.
