Residents Urge Completion Of Iloabuchi-Eagle Island Road Project
Some residents of Eagle
Island in Port Harcourt have appealed to the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, to expedite the completion of the Iloabuchi-Eagle Island Road to save those living on the Island the hardship they encounter daily.
Chief Ikechukwu Amahwule described the project as very strategic as it links the residents of Eagle Island with other parts of Port Harcourt City.
He noted that both the bridge and the road were almost completed but unfortunately no activity had been taking place at site and urged the state government to complete the project in the interest of the people.
Another resident, Clara Stanford, said past administrations had on different occasions awarded contract on the road but abandoned them without justifiable cause and commended Governor Amaechi for re-awarding the project.
Standford appealed to the governor to help complete the project before the expiration of his administration.
“The bridge is almost completed, the road has almost been completed, I urge the governor to consider completing the project for those living in the new Island,” she said.
She also said that it would be a big regret if the project was abandoned again like what obtained in past administrations.
Also calling for the completion of the road, Sampson Okon said it is sad that people going to Diobu which is very close were forced to pass through Agip instead of the new road which is few minutes drive through Iloabuchi to other parts of the city.
“It makes those of us living at Eagle Island to pay more on transport and spend more time,” Okon said.
He explained that residents of the area were excited when the governor re-awarded the project and work on it moving with good speed only for action to suddenly stop when the project was almost completed,” he said.
