Be Alert, VC Advises Professors
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Prof Blessing Didia, has called on professors to always be prepared to showcase themselves, considering the volume of their training.
Didia made the call at the 38th inaugural lecture of RSUST delivered by Prof Kelvin Bob-Manuel. The lecture paper was titled Technological Advances in Maritime Transportation and Engineering: Impact on the Global and Nigerian economy.
Acting VC said professors ought to be battle ready regarding their profession, so that they can always do justice to their chosen field. Describing the guest lecturer as an erudite scholar, he appreciated him over his display of professionalism and great command of words.
According to him, the Abonnema-born professor of marine engineering has so far, through his lecture simplified the most difficult aspect of marine engineering.
Insisting on his determination to operate in line with Governor Nyesom Wike’s vision of new Rivers State , the acting VC said he would work towards ensuring that RSUST was listed among the best universities in the world.
He solicited the support of well-meaning individuals in making the university attain global status so that the interest of the founding fathers of the institution would be achieved. The guest speaker, Prof Bob-Manuel said the exercise was an academic tradition that gives university dons the opportunity to inform and educate the public as well as make ones contributions in area of speculation / discipline.
He has also thanked the vice chancellor for the opportunity given him to deliver the second inaugural lecture under his administration.
In his lecture, Prof Bob-Manuel said maritime industry is a huge revenue spinner, and stressed the need to sanitise the system towards raking in the full benefits while acknowledging that vessels are the major pollutant of the marine enlivenment , the guest lecturer called on the government to work out modalities on how to check faulty vessels.
The guest lecturer, also touched on maritime and its related hazards and other issues mitigating against marine business even as he advocated for a synergy among stakeholders in protecting marine life.
