WHO Donates Equipment To C’River Health Ministry
In its bid to strengthen the
newly established Human Resources for Health (HRH) unit and gender desk of the Ministry of Health in Cross River State, the World, Health Organisation (WHO) has donated some office equipment and stationeries worth thousands of dollars to the Ministry.
The gesture, under the WHO Human Resources for Health Project, is funded by Global Affairs, Canada, to increase the capacity and competence of the Ministry’s HRH unit which is situated within the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics as approved at the 54th National Council on Health.
WHO State Coordinator, Dr. Tom Igbu, said the gesture was “a symbol of the commitment of WHO and the government of Canada to ensuring a strong health system in Cross River State by creating a nucleus for planning and management of health workers in the state.
According to Igbu, “WHO will continue to provide technical support and capacity building for the unit and its staff,” noting that the presentation of the equipment was the first phase of the gesture as more equipment will be procured for the health workforce registry.
Receiving the office equipment at the State Ministry of Health Headquarters, Calabar, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong expressed appreciation to WHO, the implementing partner and the Government of Canada through the Global Affairs, Canada for their support to the state.
Dr. Asibong assured that the HRH unit would put the equipment to good use in order to achieve its desired objective and charged staff of the unit to work assiduously and protect the equipment.
In a separate interview, the Director of Administration, Ministry of Health, Elder Egwu U. Omini and the Human Resources Health Focal Person for Cross River Ministry of Health, Mr. Okina Nze Oba, thanked World Health Organization and Government of Canada for the gesture and for choosing Cross River and Bauchi as pilot states for HRH project, they promised to do their best to make judicious use of the equipment, protect them and ensure that the aims of the project were achieved.
The equipment include, desk computers, photocopiers, printers, toner cartridges, spiral binding machines, office chairs and tables for Cross River Ministry of Health’s HRH unit and gender desk office, among others.
