NMA Demands Arrest Of Dr Onua’s Killers
The Rivers State Council of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has urged the Rivers State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward the arrest of killers of Dr. (Mrs) Florence Onua.
Dr. (Mrs) Onua, a mother of four was killed around the GRA axis of Port Harcourt.
Chairman of the association, Dr. Datonye Alasia who said this during the association’s peaceful protest in Port Harcourt also called for the safe and unconditional release of Dr. Emi Clark Bobmanuel who was kidnapped in Omoku.
Dr. Alasia said that Dr. Bobmanuel has so far spent over 48 days in the hands of his abductors.
He described the two incidents as a big blow to the medical profession and the entire society, stressing that it behoves the security agencies to ensure that the right to life of all citizens was protected.
The association chairman also called for collaborative efforts between the people, the government and the security agencies through information to check the rising cases of kidnapping in the society.
He said that the protest was to mobilize the various segments of the society to speak against the continuous deprivation of citizens’ right to life by kidnappers and hoodlums.
Dr. Alasia commended the efforts of the State Government and the security agencies in working tirelessly to secure the release of the abducted Medical Doctor and pledged the support of the association.
Also speaking, Chairman of the State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Omoni Ayo Tamuno said that medical doctors and journalists are targets of kidnappers, adding that something must be done to check the trend.
Mr. Tamuno also condemned the killing of Dr. (Mrs) Florence Onua as well as the continuous holding in captivity of Dr. Emi Clark Bobmanuel and advised those involved to release him unconditionally.
