Forum Set To Reposition Private Media
The newly elected Chairman of a Non-Governmental Organisation NGO in Rivers State, the Independent Publishers Forum (INPF), Mr. Sam Walson, has said that the group under his watch is committed to the repositioning of private media houses for greater productivity. Mr. Walson, who stated this in Port Harcourt in an interview with The Tide said “as a matter of fact, we are ready to reposition the private media houses in the state in order to gain relevance in the society.
“The organisation under my leadership will channel its energy to human development and staff welfare which have been a source of worry for years to enable practising journalists under it to be carried along in terms of salary payment.
“We will embark on an awareness campaign on the need for government and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to give private media their rightful place as well as look into some grey areas”, he said.
The INPF boss stressed the need for the NUJ, government media houses and the private media to partner in order to reposition the industry for effective performance in their day to day activities.
“We will ensure that there is synergy between private and government media houses. We are calling on the parent body, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the Rivers State Government under Governor NyesomWike, corporate bodies in the state, private individuals, captains of industries, among others to support the good works of private media houses in contributing to nation building”.
Mr. Walson, who is the publisher of a Port Harcourt-based tabloid, Rivers Today, enjoined private media houses in the state to join forces with the group to reposition the industry and commended members of the executive for their emergence, assuring that they would put in their best to set better and acceptable standard for posterity.
