RSNC GM Tasks Geoscientists On Natural Disasters Control
The General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation (RSNC), Mr Vincent Ake, has charged members of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, Port Harcourt Chapter, to deploy their wealth of experience in tackling some natural disasters facing the Niger Delta.
Ake who said this during a courtesy call on him by the society in his office in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday, said that the problem of oil pollution, flooding, incessant collapsing of buildings and other natural disasters needed geoscientists to proffer solutions.
According to him, as experts in disaster management and control, their importance in the society cannot be over-emphasised.
He, however, urged them to make their activities relevant to both the government, multinational corporations and the rest of the society.
Earlier, the Port Harcourt Chapter President of the society, Mr Prosper Jeremiah Ogbunie, said the chapter had been given the hosting right of the 57th International conference of the society.
Ogbunie said that the visit was to explore areas of collaboration with the corporation with a view to publicising the society’s activities, especially the conference.
According to him, geoscientists are specialists in flood control, controlling of road failures and other major disasters.
He said the application of the knowledge of Geoscientists would be useful in all human endeavours.
