Monarchs Plan Security Partnership With Govt
The Monarch of Upata Kingdom, King Felix Enene Otuwarikpo and that of Bomo Kingdom in Bayelsa State, King Joshua Igbugburu, have indicated interest on the need to partner government on security.
This was part of the talks raised when the Upata King paid a courtesy call on his Bayelsa counterpart in Yenagoa recently.
The monarchs were of the view that issues of security must be handed back to the traditional institutions by the government, if the expected result must be achieved.
According to them, good governance was key to ending the challenges of insecurity which had exalted to insurgency.
“Security of lives and property is fundamental to human existence. Government should return security matters to traditional rulers for effective and efficient policing at the grassroots”, they said.
The natural leaders also touched on other fundamental issues that could be of mutual benefit to both Kingdoms, and assured of their willingness to work with the government.
In furtherance to their plans, they agreed to canvas for good governance, peace, and security in Nigeria, and stressed the need for justice.
They also noted that a nation cannot operate successfully without good governance and justice.
On the part of the security agencies, they called on them to take bold steps and collaborate with traditional rulers in the efforts to rid the rural communities of criminal elements.
The traditional rulers pointed out that the security agencies must sensitise and encourage the people in order to provide intelligence with a view to exposing the criminals in their various domains.
