UPWA Urges Women To Speak Out Against Societal Ills
The President of University of Port Harcourt Women Association (UPWA), Dr. Udeme Georgewill has called on women all over the world to always speak out against societal ills.
She equally advised women to help each other at their neighborhood and mentor the girl child to achieve their set target.
Georgewill, said this in her address delivered on the International World Women’s Day Celebration on Monday, in Port Harcourt, with the theme tagged, “Gender equality Today For A Sustainable Tomorrow”; #BreakTheBias.
According to her, women should stand against inequality at all times, adding that together, they can break the bias of inequality.
“As women, we have encountered various bias that hinder our success and achievements. Today, we join other women in the world to Break The Bias that exists in our communities, workplaces, schools and Universities,” Dr. Georgewill said.
She equally said women can collectively break the bias of inequality, saying that it is important for women to be diligent in whatever thing they are doing.
“Collectively, we can break the bias of inequality, stereotypes, reject discrimination, and pursue gender parity if only we get off the bench and take action.
We need to speak out against the ills of society, helping one woman in your neighbourhood, mentoring our girls to take up the mantle of leadership tomorrow,” she stated.
The President noted that women have come a long way in the society but still need to put more effort for better tomorrow.
“Women have come a long way in every sphere of life and nowhere is this better represented than in a university environment and in an association like ours, UPWA where women from different walks of life come together to celebrate friendship and work in unity to serve humanity.
While we have come a long way, the fact remains that we still have a long way to go,” she added.
