Terror Alert: British Airways Resumes, Reschedules Flight Operations
Following the recent terrorism alert issued by the governments of the United States and United Kingdom over attack in Abuja, the British Airways has resumed and rescheduled operational time of its London-Abuja flight, which was cancelled for two days.
After cancelling its Abuja-bound flight on Friday and Saturday, the British Airways changed its flight schedule to Abuja with effect from last Sunday.
A memo issued by the Airline informed its trade partners of the temporary schedule change to and from Abuja, effective from October 30th to November 7, 2022, which it said was due to operational constraint.
The Airline, however, noted that its London-Abuja flight would now be departing by 0810 hours and arrive 1515 hours instead of the previous 22:25 hours and 4:40 hours.
It was reported that the BA83 flight from London-Heathrow to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, was suddenly diverted to Lagos last Thursday.
The development caused outrage among the affected passengers who complained that there was no adequate notice.
Although the airline did not provide any reason for the decision, the diversion of the flight is believed to be connected with the terror alert in Abuja, which as seen several foreign missions, including the US, UK, Australia, and Germany, issuing travel warnings to their citizens.
Meanwhile, there is growing apprehension about the security situation at the FCT, since the terror alert was given, though the Federal Government has been making frantic efforts in ensuring that it is nipped at the bud.
Recall that the United States’ Mission in Nigeria recently issued a security alert over possible terror attacks in Nigeria, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and environs.
