LG Boss Appeals For Peace Amongst Chiefs In Bakana
The Chairman of Degema Local Government Council, Hon. Michael John Williams, has appealed for peaceful coexistence amongst the various groups of Chieftaincy Councils in Bakana.
He said peace was critical to the continued existence of the community.
The council boss, who made this known, when he played host to representatives of the various groups in his office in Degema, reminded them that with love, forgiveness and unity, the community’s forebears made significant progress and bequeathed a united and enviable community to the current generation.
On the forthcoming burial of the late King Omieibimaba Orubu-iyi Ala-Odum Will-Barboy, Amanyanabo of Bakana, which is slated for next week, the council chairman appealed for the cooperation of all, in order to ensure that the peace is kept all through the ceremonies.
He stated that he was aware of some contending issues and decided to intervene in the interest of peace and in order to forestall a situation where some persons or group would take advantage of the situation to instigate crisis in the community.
On their part, the various groups commended the chairman for his peace initiative, assuring him of their commitment to peace.
Speaking on behalf of the Bakana Traditional Administration faction, which comprises the King Igbanibo Will Braide House-led Odum Barboy Group, Engr. Okiye Evans Senibo Will Braide, while also subscribing to the need for peace in Bakana, stated that the group would not be participating in the burial, because they had pending matters in court, challenging his ascension and recognition.
He also assured that they would not do anything to endanger the peace of Bakana, and called for mutual respect.
Responding, the Council Chairman stated that those with genuine reasons could boycott the burial, while those who wished to participate should do so freely, assuring that under his watch, things would be done properly and that nobody would encroach on the rights of another.
Present at the meeting were the Council Chairman, Hon. Williams, Chief Dr. Mpaka Gogo-Abite Iyalla, Chief Bob J. F. Iboroma, Chief Teke-opuye Pakama Alamboye, Chief Ikronibo Leopold Blankson, Chief Protocol Officer to the Chairman.
Others include: Chief Okiye Evans Senibo Will Braide; Chief Ipalibo D. Braide; Chief Dabo Dapper; Chief Lawrence Odum; Chief Levy Orubu Bealnut Pedro; Chief Austin Braide; and Hon. Ipalibo Yellowe, Chief of Staff to the Council.
