ADR Practitioners Seek Outside Courtroom Settlement Approach
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practitioners have continued to sermonise outside courtroom approach to settlement of issues considering its quick and friendly nature.
A front line ADR practitioner in the state, Mrs. Amara Inegbenoise, made the appeal at a public function organised at the instance of the Student Judicial Council, Student Union Government of the Rivers State University (RSU), in Port Harcourt, recently.
Inegbenoise said the essence of the meeting was to chat ways for ADR and the need to consider settling disputes outside courtroom.
She noted that the programme was also aimed at creating awareness about ADR amongst the student community.
Describing the process as the fastest in resolving matters, she said it was also cheap as time and money are saved.
According to her, the basic points to note in ADR includes, Mediation, Arbitration, and Evaluation.
She further noted that in the court room litigation, nepotism and other distractions are kept aside for overall justice delivery by the learned trial judge.
The consultant also clarified that ADR other than court room system give parties peace of mind rather than the long processes involved in litigation.
She added that the system was created due to the passion to give back to the students community, and exposed them early to the practice, which she said was not available during her time in the university.
“I am very passionate about ADR, and I want the students to get those aspects that we did not have early in our educational journey”, she stated.
Also speaking, a guest, Mrs.Chioma S.Jack, who represented her principal, His Lordship Victor Amasike, threw more light on the State Multi Door Court House, saying it is important in alternative resolution to litigations bothering on trade deals and social relationship.
Amasike explained that the Multi Door Court system, is now a working window and becoming part of the documents alternative to litigations and arbitration in the resolution of commercial disputes.
