Edo Expects 2,000 Participants At Sports Festival, Carnival
About 2,000 participants are expected to participate in the sixth edition of the Edo Heritage Sports Festival and Carnival scheduled to hold in November in Benin.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Heritage and Sports Colony Limited, Omoyemwen Afolabi, disclosed this to The Tide’s source in Benin on Wednesday.
She added that more than 3,000 spectators were expected to grace the annual event.
“It’s a blend of contemporary and traditional components, with the aim of promoting cultural tolerance and unity in the state”, the CEO said.
She stated that the 2023 edition was being organised in collaboration with the Edo State Sports Commission and Edo Skills Development Agency.
“Also, the event is being supported by other corporate bodies and government agencies”, Afolabi said.
The source reports that the line-up of the event’s activities has a carnival parade, trade fair and ‘oguirise’ which is otherwise known as ‘Ayo’.
There are also a traditional wrestling contest, the Benin chess tournament, spelling bee competition, a karate competition, five-a-side football competition, daily outdoor dance and music fiesta.
Other activities to hold are athletics competition, Miss Paraclete international pageant and free skills acquisition.
