A public commentator and activist, Comrade Charles Jaja, has condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) factional Chairman in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, for calling for state of emergency in the state.
Comrade Jaja, who appeared on a radio programme at the weekend in Port Harcourt, said the call by Okocha displays his frustrations and bitterness over the milestones achieved by Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
He described Okocha as a trouble merchant who wants to do the bidding of his pay master and former Governor of the State, Nyesom Wike.
In the words, “we have states in the country whose security status are worse than Rivers State, yet there have been no call for emergency rule”.
The human rights activist said instead of calling for emergency rule, Chief Okocha should call for state of emergency in Agriculture and food production in the country as many citizens are languishing in shortage and hunger.
He appealed to the factional APC chairman to join hands to make Rivers State better rather than seeking avenues to pull it down.
On the tenure of the local government chairmen, Jaja observed that legally their tenure has elapsed and wondered why they want to elongate their tenure through the back door.
He expressed hope that in the coming months the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) woild conduct election to enable yhe people elect substantive Chairmen for the LGAs.
He also advised RSIEC to be unbiased and ensure that all parties are given level playing ground to participate in the upcoming LG elections.
