The Eze Oha Evo III of Evo Kingdom, King Leslie Eke, Eze Gbagbaka, has called on the Igbo Community in Rivers and Bayelsa States to give their support to the present administration in Rivers State under Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
He made the call when the Eze Ndigbo in charge of the two States, Eze Onunwkwuruigbo III of Rivers and Bayelsa States, Eze Innocent Adiele Maduagwu, and others paid him homage at his palace in Woji, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, weekend.
He said they must do so, because it is a trite commandment, both scripturally and otherwise.
The Eze Evo told his guests to consider throwing their weight behind the Governor, irrespective of the political development in the State, saying it is their constitutional right.
He also explained that it was for their interest as business operators in the State.
“I am saying this for your own interest. If there is peace in the State, there is also peace for you. How do you achieve this? Only to support the Government as led by Governor Siminalayi Joseph Fubara”, he advised.
As a traditional ruler, he said, he will “always be in league with your stay in the State, so far as you have elected to be peaceful. If the State is devoid of peace, your businesses would suffer a level of ship wreck”.
Another reason the Eze Gbagbaka advanced for the call to support the Governor Fubara-led administration was the declaration by the Supreme Court of Nigeria which has since affirmed his electoral victory.
He also advised his visitors to shun any form of rancour and acrimony among themselves and added that “a house divided among itself can never stand”.
Meanwhile, Eze Maduagwu assured their host of doing the needful towards achieving a peaceful and cordial relationship between Rivers State Government and his people.
He praised the Eze Gbagbaka over his relentless stance on justice and good governance in the State.
