Ohafia Set To Bury Udumeze

The Elu Ohafia Community and residents of Ohafia Kingdom in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, are putting finishing touches to preparations to accord a befitting burial to Udumeze of Ohafia Ancient Kingdom, His Royal Paramountcy, Prof Emmanuel Ume Lekwa Imaga, the Ezieogo of Elu Ohafia. The burial has been fixed for July 3 to July 6, 2024 at his country home in Elu.
The burial Central Working Committee, chaired by Chief Prince Kalu Ikpemini, with Chief Ume Kalu(SAN) as co-chairman, has in a press statement signed by the Secretary, Uma Ntima indicated that preparations are in top gear to give the deceased monarch a befitting burial, befitting his status and accomplishments.
The committee also hinted that after a thanksgiving at the Presbyterian Church, Isiama Parish on Sunday, July 7, a renowned cleric, Dr Uma Ukpai would conduct an interdenominational service, comprising the monarchs of the 26 villages, the Ohafia clergy and community leaders at Achichi Ohafia.
During the Udumeze’s final rites of passage, the unique Ohafia tradition, customs and culture will be on display while not undermining his Christian faith and belief.
According to the statement, the academic community, where the deceased monarch spent his adult life, culminating to the attainment of the status of a professor, will not also be left out in the chain of activities, as a day of tributes and exhibition of his academic works will equally form part of the obsequies.
The burial also promises to be grand with the expected atmosphere of conviviality and camaraderie pervading the entire Ohafia landscape, as various parties and groups in his country home in Elu, have resolved to unite and come together, to actively participate in the weeklong activities lined up to bid the late Udumeze a deserving farewell.
The burial committee has, therefore, enjoined all well-meaning Ohafia sons and daughters, residing in Nigeria and in the diaspora, including friends, neighbouring communities and in-laws of the Ohafia people to participate physically and virtually in all the activities marking the final rites of passage for the late Udumeze.
The Udumeze’s Elu Community is expectedly wearing a new look, as efforts are being made to give not just the community but also the palace of the deceased an aesthetic and beautiful outlook.
Besides, series of meetings, both physically and virtually are being held to put everything functionally in place, especially as the July 6 burial date is fast approaching.The burial uniforms, comprising T-shirts, ankara and george materials have also been released at subsidised rates, to make the burial truly colourful.
It is also noteworthy that the entire Ohafia people across the 26 villages are totally committed to the burial of the late Udumeze with the sundry financial donations, contributions and support trickling in on a daily basis, from across the country and the diaspora, to ensure a hitch-free and successful burial for the late monarch.

RSU, Glo Partners To Improve Digital Learning, Efficient Network Services
Rivers State University (RSU) and Globacom Nigeria Limited have partnered to enhance digital learning and communication within the university.
The partnership, known as the “RSU Staff and Students Close User Group,” aims to provide uninterrupted network and internet services across the university’s campuses.
During the launch event at the main campus held on tuesday in port Harcourt, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Zeb-Obipi Isaac, praised Globacom for selecting the university for this initiative.
He noted that poor network services have been a major challenge for the institution and expressed gratitude for Globacom’s commitment to improving digital connectivity and announced the purchase of one thousand and five hundred glo lines for use by new subscribers in the university.
Prof. Zeb-Obipi explained that the university is open to working with any network provider that can deliver efficient services, including fiber optic connectivity to enhance internet access.
He also requested that existing Globacom subscribers among staff and students be allowed to retain their lines without disruption.
Our challenges have been poor network issues,the moment you enter in to the university campus, you will begin to experience poor network problems.
ICC came and dropped one in the school and requested them to drag the fibre optic system to school ICT but uptill this moment, they have not returned and we will not wait for them but will move with any one that meets our desire “he stated.
Globacom’s consulting partner, Ambidex Media & Communication,Dr Chimbuo Victor outlined the benefits of the partnership, including a monthly subscription fee of N500 for participants. The company will install seven network masts across the university’s campuses to ensure seamless connectivity.
The partnership is expected to usher in a new digital era for RSU, enabling staff and students to access uninterrupted network services and enhancing digital learning opportunities.
“Lecturers and students on the group can learn more even after school hours on the platform using the platform.we are installing seven masks, four in the main campus,while the remaining three will be installed at Abara, Emohua and Ahaoda campus”he stated .

Labour Group Slams Minister, 10 Others with N500 Billion Suit
The Incorporated Trustees of the National Association of Plant Operators (NAPO) has filed a N500 billion lawsuit against the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, and 10 others. The suit, marked NICN/ABJ/165/2024, was brought before the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Abuja Division.
The claimants, including Comrade Harold I. Bestowe, Onyeka Chukwudi Christopher, and others, allege that the Minister and others have refused to grant NAPO’s application for registration as a trade union. They are suing on behalf of themselves and NAPO members nationwide.
The defendants in the matter include:
Minister of Labour and Employment,
Registrar of Trade Unions,
National Union of Civil Engineering Construction Furniture & Wood Workers (NUCECFWW),
Daewoo Engineering & Construction Nigeria Limited (DECN) and
Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited.
Others are
Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG),
Construction and Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association (CCESSA),
Trade Congress of Nigeria (TUC),
Nigeria Police,
Nigeria Police Service Commission,
State Security Service and Nigerian Army.
The claimants averred that NAPO was formed to represent the interests of heavy-duty plant operators across Nigeria.
They are seeking the following orders an order of certiorari quashing the refusal to register NAPO as a trade union- An order directing the issuance of a certificate of registration to NAPO,an order setting aside collective bargaining agreements negotiated between some defendant,an order directing the reinstatement of members whose employment was terminated due to their participation in NAPO’s trade union activities
The claimants had previously withdrawn a similar case (NICN/ABJ/166/2024) to avoid duplicity and ensure comprehensive adjudication of all issues in contention.

An Entertainment Giant Goes Home

The late chairman of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Rivers State chapter, PHALGA Unit, Ediseimokumo Vining Ileberi, popularly known as VINTA 60 would be laid to rest this weekend in Port Harcourt.
The Tide Entertainment gathered that a candle night is scheduled to hold on the 30th May, 2025. of this month at 6 pm while the burial ceremony takes off with an open air service by 9:am the following morning.
According to the younger brother to the deceased, pastor Inemo Vining Ileberi, who disclosed this to the Tide Entertainment, the burial service would be held at the Prime Rose Estate playground, Okrika Water front, Port Harcourt.
Pastor Ileberi said that the burial service would be officiated by the living Faith Church .( Winners Chapel)
Meanwhile, the Public Relations officer of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria, PHALGA Unit, Christopher Sokari Briggs has described the passing of the chairman as a great loss to the association, saying that the loss is a huge vacuum to the Port Harcourt Entertainment industry, especially to the Port Harcourt Township where he said that the impact of the late VINTA 60 was felt via his entertainment programme.
He further said that his contribution to the growth and promotion of entertainment in Port Harcourt would not be forgotten in a hurry, saying that the history of entertainment in Rivers State would not be complete with out the name, VINTA 60 being mentioned.
” VINTA would be greatly missed, he took entertainment to a height where the name,( VINTA 60 or V6) became an house hold name in the entertainment industry, especially in Rivers State. His annual programme tagged ‘Port Harcourt Town Carnival was remarkable’,” the P.R.O said.
Until his death V6 was a known Port Harcourt based artiste, an entertainment giant and coordinator of the PMAN, PHALGA Unit.
Earlier, the Governor of PMAN Rivers State, Moses Mabadaje popularly known as Mozzy B, has said a tribute night would be held in honour of the deceased immediately after the burial ceremony.
He said that PMAN, DJ’s and other entertainers would observe a tribute night in honour of their late colleague at the carniriv stand situated at Aggrey Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Meanwhile, a tribute song has been put in place to be performed by some Port Harcourt artistes, Show D, Don Christo, Yung, and Slim D to honour the Late VINTA 60.
It would be recalled that V6 passed on April 24, after a protracted illness. He is survived of his father, brothers, sisters, and three children.
